UMBC offers 54 majors, 45 minors and 20 certificates spanning the arts, engineering and information technology, humanities, sciences and pre-professional studies, and social sciences. Students also create their own major through the interdisciplinary studies program. New undergraduate degree programs include Media and Communication Studies, Management of Aging Services, Gender and Women's Studies, Computer Science - Game Development Track, and Visual Arts - Animation and Interactive Media Track. UMBC's Graduate School offers 33 Master's degree programs, 24 doctoral degree programs and 24 graduate certificate programs. UMBC has been named the No. 1 "up-and-coming" national university by U.S News and World Report America's Best College Guide. The university was singled out among schools that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus or facilities. UMBC also was the top rated public university in undergraduate teaching. UMBC was tied with Stanford for fourth among all universities and colleges in undergraduate teaching behind only Dartmouth, Princeton and Yale. In addition, UMBC was named one of the top 100 "Best Value Colleges" by the Princeton Review in June 2009. About the Athletics: UMBC sponsors 19 Division I sports - baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball. UMBC is one of nine members of the America East Conference. League rivals include University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont. Since joining the America East in 2003-04, the Retrievers have won 15 league titles, including men's basketball (1, 2008), women's bbasketball (1, 2007), men's cross country (1, 2005), men's lacrosse (3, 2006, 2008-09), men's swimming & diving (6, 2004-09), women's swimming & diving (2, 2007-08) and men's tennis (1, 2007).

I've never met a umbc student that liked True Grits. It is worse than hospital food, and the staff is very unpleasant.
