Description

Join us in spreading the One For One Movement! What is a TOMS Campus Club? TOMS realizes that the best ideas and the rawest passion often come from the freshest minds. There are others like you, who have joined our Campus Clubs and found like-minded individuals to connect with. They are amplifying the message of conscious consumerism, helping children in need, and being heard through their choices. Join us in our TOMS Campus Club – we need all the help we can get! And in return, you will learn more, motivate more people, be inspired, and gain valuable experience. TOMS Campus Clubs are groups of passionate, excited students who are working together to share the TOMS story and the One for One movement at their school. With the UNC Charlotte Campus Program we host events and fundraisers each semester that raise awareness of the amount of impact a pair of shoes has on a child’s life. We are highly committed to mentoring students at Hickory Grove Elementary weekly and volunteering monthly at Trips for Kids. Also, yearly we host a World Sight Day event as well as our most popular event-One Day Without Shoes. Contacts us if you are interested any getting involved with any of the activities!

General Info

President: Thomas Klein Vice President: Stephany McMillan Treasurer: Adyson Lingerfelt Secretary: Sathika Social Media Coordinator: Brittany Freeman Historian: Jenna Huffstetler Faculty Advisor: Pete Hurdle The TOMS Story: It all starts with need. Once the need has been identified, it is then addressed by developing a desirable product worth purchasing and carefully selecting experienced and respected giving partners. One person buys, and one person is helped. A simple idea that has turned into a global movement. And what began in 2006 by TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie has now evolved into the exciting next chapter of One for One. Blake was originally inspired by a trip to Argentina, where he saw extreme poverty and health conditions and children without shoes. He recognized that the traditional Argentine alpargata shoe could be a simple, yet revolutionary solution. To realize this mission, Blake made a commitment to match every pair of TOMS purchased with a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. "I was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little," Mycoskie said. "And I was instantly struck with the desire - the responsibility - to do more." This need to help and to give even more crystalized in 2007 when Blake realized that the TOMS business model could address other needs he had witnessed during his travels. He and a team soon set out to learn as much possible about how TOMS could help by focusing on an entirely new basic need around the world. Eyewear is the first step in this new chapter of TOMS. We started here because sight is a fundamental need, and being able to give sight has a dramatic impact on a person's life. And Thanks to the millions of supporters around the world, TOMS Eyewear launched in 2011. For so many, the idea of One for One remains as meaningful as ever. TOMS Giving: Only six months after starting TOMS, Blake returned to Argentina with family and friends and gave 10,000 pairs of new shoes to the children who had first inspired him. As of September 2010, TOMS has given over 1,000,000 pairs of new shoes to children in need through giving partners around the world. TOMS now gives in over 20 countries and works with charitable partners in the field who incorporate shoes into their health, education, hygiene, and community development programs. Our eye care program, launched in June 2011, works in a similar way. Together with our first giving partner, Seva Foundation, we are able to restore sight for people in need in Nepal, Cambodia, and Tibet. Want to know more? Why give shoes or eye care?
