NHC will be hosting a seminar today: "A review of MSU software tools and NOAA funded research applied to tropical cyclones" Pat Fitzpatrick Mississippi State University Thursday, June 4th 1:30-2:30 pm (Cookies - 1:15 pm) NHC Seminar Room Abstract This seminar presents a summary of potential tropical cyclone software tools developed at MSU the last ten years, as well as results from three NGI funded programs applied to tropical cyclones. Tools discussed will be: Methodology for probability of moist/dry air using refractivity data R-CLIPER pdfs equations Model wind profile diagnostic tool in ATCF Parametric wind scheme using NHC statements as a function of Vmax, Rmax, R34, and speed Model validation tools (vector correlation, new super-ranking scheme) Parallel coordinate visualization for multiple regression schemes Surface reanalysis code (Cressman, OI, 3DVAR-VAF, 3DVAR-VAN, 3DVAR-PSAS) The seminar will also present: 1) an ocean analysis of HWRF-POM and HWRF-HYCOM for Hurricane Isaac (2012); 2) the Wave Glider 2014 Gulf of Mexico Field program; and 3) storm surge studies in the Louisiana wetlands, including cyclone impacts on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
