A Bosch Artopsy co-execution based on an original idea by Steve Reynolds.
Welcome to Upmarket Galleries. Showcasing the work of Newport artists within the unique setting upstairs in the Newport Provisions Market. A Grade II listed Victorian building with a glass filled barrelled roof, the natural daylight is perfect for artists. Steve Reynolds, stall holder of 'Toy Army' saw the potential in this idea and proposed to Newport City Council, that the empty units become artist's studios. NCC agreed for artists to use the spaces to create new work and attract visitors to the newly refurbished market. Artist collectives Bosch (Steven George Jones) in collaboration with Artopsy Ltd run the space on a voluntary, not for profit basis in conjunction with Newport City Council. The studios and exhibition space have only been open since October 2013 and 'LandAndScapes' is the first exhibition to be put on in this beautiful venue, complimenting existing arts venues Riverfront and Barnabas Arts House. Every month, an artist from the gallery will get the opportunity to curate an exhibition, giving each exhibition a fresh approach. Artists taking part in next month's show create a diverse mix of work inspired by Newport and the surrounding areas. Newport is based in a unique location – the city centre can be reached in minutes from the M4, close to Bristol, Cardiff and places of outstanding natural beauty. LandAndScapes capitalises on these diversities providing rich inspiration to the artists.
