Description

USA Hockey, Inc., provides the foundation for the sport of ice hockey in America; helps young people become leaders, even Olympic heroes; and connects the game at every level while promoting a lifelong love of the sport. USA Hockey, Inc., is the National Governing Body for the sport of ice hockey in the United States. Its mission is to promote the growth of hockey in America and provide the best possible experience for all participants by encouraging, developing, advancing and administering the sport. USA Hockey’s primary emphasis is on the support and development of grassroots hockey programs. In January 2009, the organization launched the American Development Model, which, for the first time ever, provides associations nationwide with a blueprint for optimal athlete development. While youth hockey is a main focus, USA Hockey also has vibrant junior and adult hockey programs that provide opportunities for players of all ability levels. The organization also supports a growing disabled hockey program and maintains an inline hockey program to provide structure and support for its growth across the nation. Beyond serving those who play the game at the amateur level, USA Hockey has certification programs for coaches and officials to ensure education standards are met that coincide with the level of play. Furthermore, a large focus is put on parent education with equipment needs, rules of the game and parental roles in youth sports among common topics. Members of the organization are entitled to many benefits, including a subscription to USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely circulated hockey publication in the world; excess accident, general liability and catastrophic insurance coverage; access to USAHockey.com; and opportunities to participate in USA Hockey National Championships, as well as player development camps. USA Hockey is the official representative to the United States Olympic Committee and the International Ice Hockey Federation. In this role, USA Hockey is responsible for organizing and training men’s and women’s teams for international tournaments, including the IIHF World Championships and the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Closer to home, USA Hockey works with the National Hockey League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association on matters of mutual interest. USA Hockey is divided into 12 geographical districts throughout the United States. Each district has a registrar to register teams; a referee-in-chief to register officials and organize clinics; a coach-in-chief to administer education program for coaches; a risk manager to oversee liability and safety programs; and a skill development program administrator to facilitate learn-to-play programs for youth players and their parents.

Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA)
1631 Mesa Ave, Ste D Colorado Springs , CO 80906 United States

The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) was formed in 1982 to promote the game of baseball, raise money for charity, inspire and educate youth through positive sport images. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado the MLBPAA's membership has soared to over 7,800 members and continues to climb. Membership includes former Major League players, current players, minor league players, umpires, managers, coaches, front office personnel, media and fans. President Brooks Robinson guides the MLBPAA with Bob Boone, George Brett, Carl Erskine, Al Kaline, Rusty Staub and Robin Yount presiding as Vice Presidents. Special thanks go out to the late Mike Hegan and Chuck Hinton, who both presided as Vice Presidents at the MLBPAA. Hinton was also a founding member of the MLBPAA. Former big leaguers have gravitated to the Alumni Association, including Hall of Famers, All-Stars, Cy Young Award winners and Gold Glove recipients. Former players hoping to give back to the game find the Alumni Association to be a vital instrument to be involved in charity and community causes nationwide. Alumni members understand that as one of only several thousand living major league players, they belong to a select group that has the unique ability to grow and advance the sport of baseball and the values associated with the game. The charitable Swing with the Legends golf series has raised over $15 million, benefiting dozens of charities including Children's Hospital, American Diabetes, Boys and Girls Clubs, Cystic Fibrosis, Special Olympics, Leukemia Society of America, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and Little League Baseball. Organized at some of the country's premier golf courses, the Swing with the Legends golf series provides a weekend of fun for participants while benefiting those less fortunate. "As a former player, I can think of nothing we can do with more conviction than to help so many charities and communities throughout the country," said former Cleveland Indians great Jim "Mudcat" Grant. "The golf series provides all of us the opportunity to come together and support many worthwhile causes." The Legends for Youth clinic series puts former Major Leaguers on the diamond with youth participants, giving children an opportunity to acquire life skills and baseball fundamentals from some of baseball's greatest legends. Over the past five years, the Legends for Youth clinics have reached over 60,000 children in dozens of cities around the United States, as well as in countries like Italy, Germany, Curacao, Canada, China, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Commenting on his involvement with the Legends for Youth clinics, Brooks Robinson said, "There is nothing I would rather do than teach someone how to get their glove down or sign an autograph for a young player. It's the least I can do to give back to the game that has given so much to me." As well as the non-profit missions of the MLBPAA, the organization assists former Major Leaguers through its wholly owned for-profit organizations MLAM (Major League Alumni Marketing), and MLAS (Major League Alumni Services). MLAM goals include implementing a player pool and gaining compensation for former players through appearances and endorsements, while protecting the name and likeness of former players from unauthorized uses. MLAS strives to broaden membership programs including medical and pension benefits, while providing services outside the non-profit framework for the direct benefit of MLBPAA members. Both Major League Alumni Marketing and Major League Alumni Services continue to expand their benefits and opportunities for MLBPAA members.
