Dr. Jim Lattis will present "Honey, I Shrunk the Galaxy! How UW Astronomers Measured the Milky Way" at Space Place on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 pm. In the early 1930s, research by UW's astronomers brought about our modern understanding of the size and structure of our own Milky Way Galaxy and discovered that it was typical of other spiral galaxies in the universe. This historical talk will explain how that ground-breaking research came about.
