This week’s featured hall is Slichter Residence Hall. Slichter is situated near dining, academic buildings, and Lake Mendota, right across the street from the popular Steenbock Library. This summer, resident rooms in this hall will get some nice upgrades with new carpet, blinds, and lighting fixtures, making for brighter, cozier student spaces. Plus, Slichter is just a block away from the Babcock Dairy Store and their famous ice cream!
From Jeff Novak, Director of University Housing: Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the conversation about student behavior and the unfortunate bias incidents on this campus. Let me offer my sincere apologies to anyone who was affected by the recent incidents or any other mistreatment in our residence halls. The staff across University Housing are committed to our mission in making this “the best place to live,” and no student should have to be subjected to this kind of treatment, especially in the place they call home. We promise to continue listening, learning and fostering a diverse community where Badgers feel safe, welcome and respected. We will continue to create opportunities to educate students, challenge them to think about their behavior, and act swiftly to hold those accountable when their behavior is unacceptable, disrespectful or violates policies of our University. However, that alone will not solve the problem. We need everyone’s help. Evidence shows that parents and friends can play a critical role in the choices students make. We are asking you to unite with us in our efforts to address these issues. These may not be easy conversations to have, but it is truly important for the safety and well-being of our entire UW community. Our goal is to create a culture of care, where it is all of our responsibility to help ensure and provide a positive atmosphere for everyone at UW-Madison. #theRealUW
