A FREE Martial Arts Program for US Military Veterans, restoring the Physical, Mental and Spiritual balance of daily life through Isshinryu Karate. V-MAT is a 501c3 Non-Profit Charitable Trust that is dedicated to providing free martial arts training for honorably discharged United States Military Veterans. Our mission is to provide training that allows Veterans to thrive and grow in a healthy environment. The unique approach of the V-MAT program helps Veterans achieve balance, address challenging situations, and handle the stress of daily life. V-MAT is always seeking additional Veteran students and financing. Master Lombardo has been working with local and state government agencies and various Veteran's organizations throughout the Seacoast New Hampshire area.

Description

When a warrior comes home from battle, it is a difficult transition process that requires more than flipping a light switch to turn off that thought process. The camaraderie, sense of family, discipline and balance required in martial arts training are the same characteristics required to handle the stresses of daily life, as well as it’s more challenging situations. Students will learn the benefits the martial arts has on the human mind, psyche and behavior. This calming effect is learned through the physical practice of traditional kata (forms), as well as breathing techniques, decision making skills - and the evaluation process of when to passively or actively defend ones self - or simply walk away. Martial Arts have been proven to assist in the physical, mental and spiritual stability of many issues, in all walks of life. Scott Lombardo Founded V-MAT in 2015, but began his martial arts studies in 1990. He is well rounded in the culture, history and philosophy of the arts, in addition to the physical aspects of forms, sparring and self-defense. In addition to the demanding requirements for his current rank of 6th Dan, Scott spent two years in the late 1990’s redesigning the Isshinryu Karate system in order to offer martial arts instruction to amputee students, with and without prosthetics. He has also successfully taught students with learning disabilities, including ADD, and ADHD, as well as women's self defense and rape prevention courses in his home state of New Jersey. He has also competed in the karate tournament circuit in several states before settling in New Hampshire. A cancer survivor who was given less than a 10% chance of survival over 20 years ago, our Founder and Sensei is acutely aware of the benefits martial arts provide - and is qualified from experience to teach them. Our mission is assisting Veterans with the challenges of daily life, through the physical, mental and spiritual balance of the Martial Arts.
