General Info
The Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System team provides care to more than 54,000 enrolled Veterans annually in 101 counties in Nebraska, Western Iowa, and portions of Kansas and Missouri. The Omaha VA Medical Center is a tertiary facility provides inpatient and outpatient health care through primary care, medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Unique services include a Veterans Resource & Referral Center that provides homeless Veterans psychosocial services, voc rehab, and day services. The staff provides medical training to more than 100 students at two medical affiliates and more than 400 residents each year. The facility also has a nationally recognized major clinical research program. The Grand Island Community-Based clinic provides outpatient primary, specialty, and mental health care and residential substance abuse in addition to a CT scanner, Home-Based Primary Care, pain, polytrauma, and audiology and ophthalmology clinics. A new dental clinic was opened in May 2011. A Community Living Center provides short stay rehabilitation, skilled nursing care, respite and long term care. A five bed hospice and palliative care unit is now available on the CLC for end-of-life care for our veterans. A transitional house for homeless Veterans was recently opened. The community-based clinics in Norfolk, North Platte, Holdrege, and Bellevue, Nebraska; and Shenandoah, Iowa, and a contract outreach clinic in O’Neill, Neb., provide primary care, mental health, and telehealth in the following areas: audiology, mental health, nutrition, MOVE program, and home telehealthCompany Rating
