The City of Vancouver declared March and April the months to honor the 40,000 ornamental cherry trees generously gifted from Japan in the 1930's.

Each spring Vancouver wakes up to an explosion of cherry blossoms. Our 40,000 ornamental cherry trees inspire the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF). As the quintessential symbol of spring, the universal theme of the cherry tree inspires new poetry, dance, art, music, film, design, crafts, photography, and cuisine. A wide array of diverse programs from the international Haiku Invitational (watch spacing here) Cherry Jam Downtown concert, Bike the Blossoms, Sakura Days Japan Fair, BC Blossom Photo Watch, Cherry Scouts Program, Tree Talks and Walks and the Cherry Blossom Viewing Google Map the festival captures the exuberance of the blossoming with cultural programming for the whole community to enjoy. Inspired by the age old Sakura festivals of Japan, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival uplifts spirits in the city, while the ephemeral nature of the blossoms remind us all to take time now to celebrate life. We invite you to join in our joyous city-wide celebration and choose a picnic spot from over 1,000 locations on our Cherry Blossom Viewing Map for your party and don't forget your tarp! This engaging festival provides a happy occasion to bring people together in celebrating Vancouver's natural beauty and this miracle of nature every spring.
