Description

It is exciting being at the forefront of the field. And, that’s exactly where we are. Graduate students come to the department with a fluency in the language of fiber, metal, clay, glass or wood. Undergraduates come with a sense of dedication and commitment to learning. Together, faculty and students hone, improvise, and redefine ancient technologies with new technologies. We bend and blend concepts and materials. We abstract from the familiar and tinker with expectations to take the field in new and challenging directions. Sonya Clark, Chair, Professor

To symbolize solidarity with those impacted by the tragedy in Orlando, the Division of Student Affairs would like to encourage the VCU community to wear the color orange or red this Friday, June 17. Each color of the rainbow flag, a historic symbol of gay pride, has meaning, with orange representing healing and red representing life. We invite all members of the VCU community to wear orange or red on Friday to symbolize solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities, Latinx communities, Muslim communities, and all who have been impacted by the tragedy in Orlando.
