Vicarage Farm Holiday Cottages offer a hospitable welcome to visitors in three charming self catering cottages and farmhouse bed & breakfast accommodation.
Built in 1637 and set in six acres of delightfully landscaped private gardens and woodland, they enjoy uninterrupted views over fields, dry stone walls and quiet country lanes. The holiday cottages are set in the ancient farming hamlet of Wheston with its medieval cross. The hamlet lies just over a mile outside the well-serviced market town of Tideswell with its famous church known as ‘The Cathedral of the Peak’ and its equally famous Well Dressing Festival held annually in June. The village has a good range of independent shops – baker, butcher, greengrocer, café, deli, bookshop, chip shops, Post Office and a Co-op open from 7am till 10pm. Wheston is centrally placed in the unspoilt Peak District National Park, a place where the traditional activities of hill and dairy farming are part of day to day life. There are glorious rambles both for the energetic and for those who prefer a gentle amble through the unspoilt and serene hills and dales.
Directions Vicarage Farm Cottages are in the middle of the Peak District National Park and there are many different routes to the cottages both direct and scenic. The cottages lie midway between Sheffield on the the M1 and Manchester on the M6. If you are travelling on the M6 from the south we would suggest leaving the motorway at junction 18 (Holmes Chapel) and following the A54 to Buxton via Congleton. From Buxton, follow the signs towards Bakewell along the A6. The A6 initially winds along a valley and then gains height. Shortly after reaching the limestone plateau take the left turn (B6049) signed to Tideswell. Coming from the north via the M6, leave at junction 30 and take the M61 round Manchester to Junction 2 at Stockport, then follow signs for Buxton and the A6 then A623 to the Tideswell junction (B6049) at the Anchor pub. If travelling north up the M1 we would advise leaving at junction 29 and taking the dual carriageway (A617) to Chesterfield. At Chesterfield follow the sign for Bakewell along the A619. Follow this road to Baslow. At Baslow take the A623 and follow this main road through the villages of Calver and Stoney Middleton. Continue along the A623 until the crossroads where the Anchor Inn is on the right and Tideswell is signed to the left. Turn left along the B6049 towards Tideswell. From Tideswell The B6049 passes through the centre of the village of Tideswell where all the local facilities are based including cash point, post office and doctor. Opposite the Nat West Bank, turn right onto the old Manchester Road and through the Market Place (now used for car parking.) Pass the Market Place on the right and after 50 metres take the left turn (signed Wheston) up the hill. Drive just over a mile and Vicarage Farm Holiday cottages are the fourth property on the right in the hamlet of Wheston . The cottages are located opposite the new stable block and have exterior signage. (Unfortunately some Sat Navs require a road name, but the lane through Wheston is not sufficiently used to merit a name.)
