We would like to express our sincere sympathy to the members of ElecRail for the loss of the swing door set of heritage electric units, or the 'Doggies' as they are known to most. For those who are unaware, an electrical fire started in the very early hours of Wednesday 4th March at the Newport Railway Workshops, the location of many main line heritage groups. The loss of these irreplaceable carriages is devastating and they will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with the members and volunteers who, over the many decades, have put in so many hours of dedication and passion into restoring these priceless items.

Newsrail Magazine will be featuring a 3-part article on the V class locomotives in coming months. The articles have been written by the VSLC and the first two have been submitted to the editors. We can not be sure when the articles will go to print, however it has been suggested that it will be towards the end of the year. We will keep you updated on the progress. We would like to express our gratitude to the ARHS (Vic. Div.) for asking us to supply these articles, and for their support of the V499 Project.

-Breaking News- On Saturday 19th July the board of the Victorian Goldfields Railway passed a motion to support the V499 Project in a bigger way. The railway has granted us work space at Maldon to commence restoration of the tender frame and also build the tender tank unit - thus making the VGR our 'Host Railway'. An agreement is being drawn up between the VGR and the VSLC to this matter and we are looking forward to commencing work at the railway in the coming months. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the board of the VGR and we look forward to a strong relationship with them over the many years to come. More news about this will be featured in the next edition of The Compound Chronicle.
