The gym should be a place we go to get better to make the rest of our lives easier. It has become the place we go to show people that we are already better and in the process make the rest of our lives more difficult. That's not a judgement on the individual. Our brains are wired to fit in, to not stand out, to avoid the uncomfortable. As an environment for creating mastery of movement the gym has failed.
