Next up are some of perhaps this summer’s most unique performances and remaining chances to catch dance-theatre at its best in the North East with the skills of performers from the UK, America, Spain and Poland all under the creative direction of Vivien Wood. On August 4th 'Exile' is in the beautiful St. Mary's Church on Lindisfarne, near the origin of the Gospels themselves. 'Exile' will be performed twice on the 4th August but this is sadly only a one-day opportunity to see the piece in that setting -- worth it if you at all can. From the 6th August 'Exile' is then at St. Mary's Heritage Centre in Gateshead. Both the St. Mary's churches will differently give an aptly medieval setting to 'Exile's combination of fabulous physical theatre, dance, live music, singing and chanting. St. Mary's Lindisfarne puts the piece into the setting of Holy Island itself. St. Mary's Gateshead will light the piece partly by illuminated window panels showing the original Lindisfarne Gospel tapestries in fully-restored colour -- these are part of the Centre's 'Enlighten' Gospels exhibition. 'Exile' will be performed nine times between August 6th and August 16th at St Mary’s Heritage Centre. As with all 'Exile' performances the experience at Lindisfarne and at St. Mary's Gateshead will be unforgettable.
