SWEDISH BODY MASSAGE Massage benefits all body systems and is a great detoxifier. It improves the appearance and texture of skin, increases circulation, eases stiffness and pain, and tones the muscles. By relaxing all of the body, a state of balance is achieved where the body can repair and renew itself, boosting the immune system and energy levels. Massage reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol and, therefore, decreases and soothes stress, tension, and anxiety. It also increases levels of the feel-good hormones, serotonin and dopamine, and regular treatments can assist in managing depression. It calms the nervous system, balances the emotions, and allows the mind to focus with clarity. Massage promotes healthy sleep and restores vitality. REFLEXOLOGY Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy that involves applying gentle pressure to reflex points on the feet. This process induces a state of deep relaxation, and stimulates the body’s own ability to heal. Reflexology is a safe and natural healing method that boosts the immune system, clears the body of toxins, relieves pain, and increases energy. Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:- • Hormone imbalances • Menopause • Arthritis • Stress • Migraines, headaches • Back pain • Circulatory problems • Insomnia • Digestive disorders INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE Indian Head Massage uses a variety of techniques to manipulate the soft tissue of the upper back, shoulders, neck, upper arms, face, and scalp. It provides instant relief from stress and tension, creates a state of peace and calm, and increases levels of concentration and alertness. Indian Head Massage is an extremely effective and convenient therapy and can easily be used in the workplace; no equipment is required, and a treatment can last as little as 15 minutes. It is an excellent therapy to relieve eye-strain and tension headaches, helps with mental tiredness, provides instant relief from nagging muscle pain, and eases mental and emotional stress. The recipient is left revitalised, and ready for the rest of the day. REIKI Reiki (Ray-Key) is a Japanese healing system that heals the whole person, works on the cause of illness, relieves stress, and increases creativity. It is a deeply relaxing treatment and medical studies support that Reiki can significantly reduce anxiety, increase immunological functioning, induce a noticeable drop in systolic blood pressure, and reduce pain. Many clients report feeling radiant after a treatment, with greater mental clarity, and a greater sense of well-being. CREATIVE EXPRESSIVE THERAPIES (CET) Creative-Expressive Therapies utilise a variety of arts-based activites (drama, poetry, visual arts, dance, movement, and music) to encourage personal growth and development. By engaging in the creative process, an individual develops the ability to understand and express their feelings, expand their self-awareness and imagination, and discover their own creative nature. There is a growing body of evidence that supports the belief that participating in the arts and creativity can have a profoundly therapeutic and empowering effect on the health and well-being of an individual. Creative Expressive Therapies can be adapted to most client groups, children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, children and adults with a learning or physical disabilities, and individuals with mental health issues, for example. Arts activities can have a particular focus and theme to raise awareness and educate and encourage positive change, or non-focused to allow freedom of creative expression. KALY NEWMAN – ABOUT ME I have a BA (Hons) in Arts Therapies (2:1), and a HND in Performing Arts. I hold Holistic Therapy qualifications (VTCT Diploma Level) in Swedish Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, and Reflexology, and I became a Reiki Master in 2007. Other complementary qualifications include a Certificate in Counselling Skills. I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) which ensures regulation of the highest standards, and enhances public protection. I am fully insured, and hold a current and enhanced CRB. I am very experienced in running drama workshops to children and young people of all ages, and have integrated holistic therapies and arts activities in childrens’ homes when working as a residential care worker, over the last four years whilst working as a learning mentor and pastoral officer in a secondary school, and with adults with a range of mental health difficulties and needs. STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE Vox for Life can work with clients who are experiencing a degree of stress in the workplace, and who may have a record of absence attributed to this. A range of holistic therapies are on offer that can benefit your employee so that he/she is better able to manage their levels of stress, becoming increasingly more productive and motivated in their work-life. Regular holistic therapy treatments can be also be used as a preventative measure in order to ensure that a work environment is conducive to an efficient and healthy workforce, and is a clear indication that an employer is mindful of a duty of care to his or her employees. “Stress affects one in five people of the working population and is the biggest cause of sickness in the UK. Over 105 million working days are lost each year because of work-related stress. Nearly half a million people in the UK believe that they have work-related stress at a level that is making them ill.” Source: Bupa's Health Information Team, December 2011 Please ring, text or email to make an appointment.
