First founded in 1878, Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. is one of Kansas City’s 10th oldest operating businesses. Originally established by the Walker family, Walker Laundry operated as a very well known and highly respected shirt and flatwork laundry until 1946, when it was purchased by Jack and Rubin Shapiro. The Shapiro family still own and operate the business to this day, with emphasis on high quality image and uniform programs. In 1958, second generation owner/operator Jerry Shapiro rented the company’s first uniforms and shop towels, founding Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. By the 1970’s Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. had become a leader in the local Kansas City industrial rental uniform market. Currently, Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. continues to flourish under the continued care and direction of its 3rd generation Shapiro family owner/operators, including: David S. Shapiro President Hal Shapiro Vice President Steven Shapiro Treasurer David E. Shapiro Secretary The continued success of Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. results from hard work, especially with regard to customer retention and the aggressive search for new business. Our commitment to improving our processes keeps productivity and quality ahead of our growth. This commitment is obvious through our investment in state-of-the-art equipment for direct embroidery, graphic design, emblem production, environmental compliance, data processing, and delivery. In the past 5 years alone, Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. invested in a complete overhaul of its data processing systems and computer workstations, purchased several new washing machines, dryers, and route delivery vehicles. Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. will continue to develop and enhance better systems and implement technology to satisfy customer needs, improve product quality, and production efficiency. Walker Towel & Uniform Service, Inc. currently operates an 85,000 sq. ft. semi-automated, locally operated production facility, serving customers across Missouri and Kansas.
