Congratualations to Steve and Colton who both tested and passed their Kyu rank tests final night for the spring 2014 semester.
Sorry I havent added any news lately. I'm trying to arrange an off-site location for the wscc karate class and club. Nothing settled at the moment but still looking very positive, hoping to have things set up in October and be ready for the next semester starting this January. Also, looking at seminars in the Marietta area, should be interesting and fun. For those who want to be members of the wscc karate club but not register for the class, that also is going to be arranged, but a fee and being registered for classes at the college would probably be required (fee covers instruction time and my cost of the location). Please email me at email@example.com for contact or info. I have not been checking it as much as I should but will try to improve.
Due to lack of interest/participation, the workouts at Muskingum Park in Marietta are done for this summer. I'm working on an alternative with the guys at Miyama dojo, if anyone is interested on what we come up with feel free to contact Sara, Eric, Jeremy or myself. Hope everyone has a great, safe summer!
Planning on being at Muskingum Park tomorrow evening, Monday, July 8th from 4:45 to no later than 6:30. All are welcome. Watch the weather, though, the weatherman is calling for rain everyday.
Travis is trying to expand his Judo classes and will post some information on our page. Please pass on the info to any who may be interested. It's always good to support other local, true martial art dojo's. His classes are at Almost Heaven Dojo in Parkersburg.
Karate workout at the park for Monday, July 1st is cancelled. We have our granddaughter for the week. Please post if you are interested in attending, so far it's only been myself, Sarah and Jeremy. That's ok, but we could make other, more convenient arrangements if no one else can make it this summer. Any suggestions about get togethers, please post those.
Karate workout in Muskingum Park tonight has been canceled due to the rainy weather!
We're going to start our summer workouts in Muskingam Park next Monday, June 3rd. I should be there before 5pm. For now we'll go to 630pm, unless weather, mosquitos or growling stomachs (Buckley House restaraunt across the street, smells good all the time) send us packing. We meet across from the restaraunt, close to the gazebo. All invited.
Sensei Snider's school tournament will be June 15th in Parkersburg, WV. Please support them as they support us. Good sized tourney with a variety of schools.
I do not have the particulars in front of me, but there is a tournament June 1st that a few of us are planning to attend. Please, I do NOT want to hear, "well,....." or "I'm out of practice and rusty right now....". We're all busy, but if we want others to come to Marietta for our tournament we must support them too. Plus, we usually have fun and get to meet good people and see other technique.
Heading to Zanesville this Saturday morning to practice karate with my sensei, Sensei Brian Strickler. Anyone wishing to join us please contact Brian or myself asap. Always good information and karate, hopefully some pictures and get my kata critiqued.
Sensei Strickler has invited us all to work out in Zanesville next Saturday, November 21st, from 9am to noon. please let us know if you are going to attend.
Please remember class is still ongoing at the Reno Fitness Center, Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8pm. I' m also there Tues evenings from 6 to 7pm, and with winter coming will add Thurs (if there is interest) and occasional Saturday mornings.
Changes coming to karate class at Reno Fitness Center. Going to charge $10.00/month for members and $25.00/month for non members. Summer schedule is Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8, soon to add another evening and/or Saturday mornings for winter.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get pictures from my phone onto this page. I'm still at the Reno Fitness Center on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8pm. Also, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7pm, self defense, basic fighting, drills, etc.
Bunkai seminar, ran by Sensei Phil Kromka on Saturday, August 1. 10 katas Bunkai, great! I just wish more could have attended. i'll post pictures soon.
I'd like to thank Trevor and his Dallas dojo for their usual kindness and letting me work out at the dojo last month. Good karate people!
Don't forget we're at the Reno Fitness Center, located on North 7, a few minutes north of Marietta, Ohio. Going to work out in Zanesville on February 28th with Sensei Strickler in the morning.
Sorry, but not enough students for the spring '15 class to run. This makes it two semesters (not including last summer) that the class didnt run. Due to changes in financial aid, the future is looking glum. We did try combining with the Police Officer Academy, but that didnt work out. I'm still at the Reno Fitness Center, karate class on Wednesday evenings. Also, fighting technique/self defense on tuesday evenings and saturday mornings for this winter.
If anyone is interested to meet me and try out our classes, we meet also at the Reno Fitness Center in Reno, just north of Marietta, Oh. Classes are Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8pm. You could just show up or let me know beforehand and we'll get you in as a guest to try the class and check out our gym.
I'm going to let out a big secret to mastering the martial arts........PRACTICE! There is no sub for lots of reps. Assuming self defense is part of the reason for participating, what would you do under stress of being attacked? We could all give answers like "shoot 'em", "kicks", "move-block-counter", etc. Being attacked will affect how we act and think, with practice, we can rely on muscle memory and hopefully confidence in our techniques. Also, the best fight is the one we avoid. Thoughts?
The dojo at Reno Fitness Center is doing well. Of course, if everyone showed who's told me they would a bigger room would be needed. But, even if they all wanted to things in life do have a way of changing plans. I'm looking forward to the class starting up again this semester at WSCC with the police academy involvement, should be interesting.
Our Karate/Martial Arts class at the Reno Fitness Center will start off Wednesday, October 2nd at 6pm. I'm inviting all black belts and higher kyu ranks of dojo's I'm affiliated with to attend.
Ok, lots of news to pass on. For the upcoming semester at WSCC, the Karate class will now be on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30pm. I'm also getting involved with the police training here and offering a Karate class at the same time for them, same time and place. Oops, the class for WSCC will be staying on campus, room A&S109. Starting a Karate/Martial Arts class at the newly opened Reno Fitness Center in Reno, Ohio. This is the same location on north route 7 that the Marietta YMCA opened and later closed. Rates are $20.00/month for members of the gym and $40.00/month for non-members. Classes in Reno start on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This is a new situation for me and really looking forward to it. Goshokuryu will be taught for all the above, which includes Shorin and Goju Ryu Karate, techniques of Tae Kwon Do(no tkd kata), kick boxing, ju-jitsu and Tomicki Aikido. That should be enough to keep us busy, if not we'll add weapons, oh what the heck, we'll add weapons.
