Auditions for the EMS's spring musical, "Cinderella," will be held January 30-31 after school in the choir room. There will be an informational meeting on January 22 after school in the 8th grade Gold Locker bank. Students will get the necessary materials and information about auditions at this meeting. The musical is open to 7th & 8th grade students. Students interested in working on the crew will begin in February. Keep looking for further information. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 Daily Announcements Tuesday, January 8, 2013 1. Jr. High Math League practice on Monday or Wednesday this week. 2. Art Club this Tuesday and Friday. 3. Attention Trojan Pride Ambassadors: We have a meeting on Wednesday, January 9th at 3:15 in Ms. Van Dunk's room. Please arrive right at 3:15 as we have much planning to do. See Mrs. Kimlinger or Ms. Van Dunk if you can't make it to the meeting. 4. Flag Football in the CMS dome begins Tuesday, January 15th! Players need to take bus #349 to CMS and will meet in the CMS Front Entrance. Practice goes from 3:30-4:20. Participants can ride a shuttle back to EMS if they need to catch a late bus home. Please stop by the Counseling Office for the intramural form and to pay the $25 fee. Coaches will NOT allow a student into the dome with a completed intramural form -NO EXCEPTIONS! 5. The Mathcounts selection testing will take place after school on Thursday, January 17 in room 130 (same room that we used for Jr. High Math League practice). We have a lot of material to get through so we will start promptly at 3:15. Do NOT be late. The top 8 students will be selected to represent Wayzata East Middle School at the regional competition on Saturday, February 9. The results will be posted outside Ms. Simson's office on Friday morning, January 18. 6. All students will participate in the first round of the History Bee by taking a 30 minute test in Social Studies class on Tuesday, January 15th. Can't wait for the test and want to study in advance? SPELLING BEE The first round test includes ALL students at Wayzata East Middle School and will take place during Advisory on Thursday, January 3. *The top twelve scores in the school will advance to the finals. *The School Finalist Spelling Bee will take place on Thursday, January 17th at 10:00 in the media presentation area. *The school champion will represent Wayzata East on the online test provided by Scripps Spelling Bee on January 29. 9. Parents and students can now go to the EMS website to search for items lost at school. Items can be claimed by emailing us at: EMSLostandFound@isd284.com. The number of the item and the color associated with it. For example (Item Green 65). 2. The First and Last name of the proper owner. 3. The grade and team of the proper owner. For example (6th grade blue team) Following your initial email claim we will verify a positive identification of the lost item with the proper owner. Then we will return the item to them at their earliest convenience throughout the school day. Some things to be aware of: We will not post pictures of cell phones/electronics, jewelry, or other high dollar value items. You will need to call the school and provide the office with a description of the item you are looking for. We will not post pictures of everyday school supplies. There will be KMO practice for all 3 grade levels this Friday during lunch 3. Attention students interested in writing and history: East will be supporting the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. The essay topic for the2012/2013 school year is “Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence”. There are specific guidelines to follow so interested students should see Ms. Simson, or their Language Art/ Social Studies teacher for more information. The information can also be found on the front page of the East web page under Headlines. The completed essays are due to Ms. Simson by Thursday, January 3 and there are awards for the top essays in our region. Please consider showing off your talents! 4. The science bowl next practice is Dec. 18. 5. No art club this week 6. iPad Distribution Sign Up As part of MyWay's focus on personalizing learning your student will be receiving a District iPad in January. Registration for iPad distribution night will be done through pickAtime. If you have more than one student at EMS you only need to sign up for one session as long as all the children attend with you. The dates/times are: Grade 6- January 3 @ 3:45, 5:45, or 7:45 Grade 7- January 14 @ 3:45, 5:45, or 7:45 Grade 8- January 22 @ 3:45, 5:45, or 7:45 As part of the iPad distribution process we are asking you to complete a few tasks prior to your scheduled distribution session. Completing these tasks prior to distribution will greatly speed up the iPad setup process that night. Verify isd284.com Email Account Access: Each student attending Wayzata Public Schools is assigned a Google email address. The email address format is studentID@isd284.com where student ID is the first five letters of the student's last name, first three letters of the student's first name, and three numbers typically 000. As an example John Doe would be firstname.lastname@example.org. Your student should know how to log into their isd284.com email address as it uses the same username and password as logging into a District computer, Moodle, and other District computer systems. Please verify your student can access their isd284.com email account by logging in here. Create an iTunes Account: Each student will need an iTunes account linked to their District Google email address ending in isd284.com, iTunes will send a verification email to the student's isd284.com account, be sure you can access the isd284.com email account prior to creating an iTunes account. The District strongly recommends creating an iTunes account without a credit card attached, to create an iTunes account without attaching a credit card please follow the instructions found here. Create an EPay Account (if you do not currently have one): Parents/Guardians will have the option to purchase insurance for the student's iPad to protect against theft and damage. Insurance can be purchased through the District's EPay system the night you receive the iPad. While you are not able to pre-purchase the insurance because you need the iPad serial number to complete the transaction, you can create your EPay account ahead of time. To create a District EPay account please follow the directions on the District website. Review Code of Ethics and Guidelines: Please review the District Guidelines and Code of Ethics and discuss these with your student. Appropriate use of the iPad and associated technologies is important for safe learning. There will be a sign-off document at pick-up night. These documents can be found on the District website. Bring Your Own iPad (BYOi): Students will be allowed to use their personal iPad in lieu of a District iPad. If a student will be using a personal iPad the following are required: The student and parents\guardians will need to come to one of the orientation \ check-out sessions along with students who will get the District issued iPad. The iPad must be an iPad 2 or newer. The student will use an iTunes account linked to their isd284.com email address to redeem any District provided app codes. Follow above instructions for setup. The iPad will be registered with the District Mobile Device Management server, currently Meraki. The student and parent/guardian must sign and submit the District AUP document at the January orientation session. The iPad MAC address will be provided to the district for wireless network access and web browsing tracking purposes. In addition parents/guardians will have the ability to purchase insurance for the student's personal iPad to protect against theft and damage. The insurance purchase process for a personal iPad is different than for a District owned iPad. You can purchase a personal iPad insurance policy via this portal: Student Owned iPad Insurance Policy * *This is only for families who will be providing their own iPad and not to be used for the District assigned iPads.*

Direct Appeal Campaign, 2012-2013 You’ve seen it once – now you see it twice! A pledge from ALL would be really nice.
