Welcome Centre Immigrant Services is a one-stop service designed to guide and support immigrants at 7 locations in Durham and York Regions. The Welcome Centre service delivery model is based on a holistic, flexible approach that provides a broad range of cross-sector services and expertise to immigrants/newcomers under one roof. Clients and service users are assisted with gathering information and resources and are supported in a welcoming, culturally-sensitive way. By using a coordinated, integrated case management system, clients are able to develop a one-to-one trusting relationship and access all the services they require to help them integrate economically and socially into the Canadian Labour Market and local communities. Services at the Welcome Centre include: settlement and integration services, English language training, accreditation and qualifications information, employment supports and other services based on community needs (such as legal services, mental health services, culturally-appropriate family counselling, etc.) The Centres are managed by two unique partnerships of immigrant serving agencies. In York Region: COSTI Immigrant Services, Catholic Community Services of York Region (CCSYR), Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS), Job Skills—Employment & Business Programs & Supports and Social Enterprise for Canada. In Durham Region: Community Development Council Durham, Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre, Durham Catholic District School Board (Continuing Education), Durham District School Board (Continuing Education), and the LDIPC (currently represented by the Region of Durham).

The Markham District Vetertans' Association was founded in 1949. The Markham District Veterans' Association is a non profit veterans group. Our goals and objectives; Markham District Veterans' Association (MDVA) Aims & Objectives: • To perpetuate the friendships, associations and memories of the Veterans of the Armed Forces of Canada, Her Majesty's Armed Forces, Allied Forces and Reserve Forces. • To promote just and righteous recognition of the memories of the members of Her Majesty's Armed Forces who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the execution of their duties and all living ex-members thereof, particular those who are or were resident in the Markham area. • To promote just and righteous treatment and all levels of Government towards all ex-members of the Her Majesty's Armed Forces, Allied Services, Reserve Forces and their next of kin. • To provide members with social and recreational enjoyment. • To support wherever possible, worthy community projects. • To encourage members of the community who support these Aims and Objectives to participate actively in their realization by joining the Association. • All members are expected to give of their time, expertise and physical support to further these objectives.
