Description

Welsh Hearts is a Registered Charity in Wales, Charity Number 1154109 Our mission is centered on saving lives in Wales via our heart screening programme “Heart Screening Wales” (for ages 18 to 35 years of age), funding Defibrillators and emergency lifesaving equipment throughout Wales, and providing CPR training sessions. Cardiovascular disease accounts for a third of all deaths in Wales, where the death rate is higher than in the majority of countries in Western Europe. We are helping to preserve, safeguard and promote the cardiovascular health of all persons in Wales. Since 2013 Welsh Hearts have been very busy fundraising for the widespread provision of Defibrillators across Wales and today we have placed over 800 Defibrillators throughout Wales. We are working on the saving young lives in Welsh schools going into all Secondary and Primary schools in Wales teaching CPR and Defibrillator training and basic first aid training for younger pupils. Over 30,000 people have been taught CPR skills. We have a team of around 200 amazing Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and First Responders who give up their free time to support us with our training. In Wales there are approximately 8000 sudden cardiac arrests outside hospital each year. It’s shocking that the survival rate is only 3%. Where an AED or Defibrillator is used, the survival rate is 50 %. “Unfortunately, there are not enough defibrillators in Wales or trained people to give victims the best chance of survival during those first few critical minutes. With access to more defibrillators we can provide a vital link in the chain of survival so that even more lives can be saved throughout Wales. When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chances of survival drop by up to 14% for every minute that passes, so a speedy response is crucial. Therefore, early defibrillation – within four to five minutes – gives the best possible chance of survival.” We are inundated with requests on a daily basis. We would like to see a Defibrillator next to every Fire Extinguisher in Wales. Screenings- We work alongside Cardiologists throughout Wales offering heart screening sessions from 18 to 35 years of age upwards Our Every Second Counts Appeal helps to fund Defibrillators in communities across Wales The work of Welsh Hearts is vital for the people of Wales and we rely on donations of time and money to assist us with our work. Please Help us to save more lives in Wales. We are proud of the fact that every penny raised in Wales stays in Wales!
