Description

The West Midlands Construction UTC (WMCUTC) exists to provide the young people of the West Midlands with a unique combination of excellent academic achievement and unparalleled employability skills. In common with its sister Colleges nationwide, the West Midland Construction UTC will provide 14-19 year olds with excellent, full time technical learning and business skills delivered through IT and the latest technology. Our specialism of Construction and the Application of IT in the Built Environment will give our students a distinct advantage in seeking professional and technical careers within the Construction, Built Environment and related IT industries. The combination of employer mentors, extensive work experience, an employer-led project-based curriculum, specialist facilities and a professional work environment will provide an outstanding education for all our learners. Our students will leave WMCUTC with the qualifications, skills, experience and professional work ethos that will enable them to reach their highest aspirations. Plus, our partnerships with employers, CITB and the University of Wolverhampton will ensure that we are able to support them beyond their graduation and throughout their career. The College is opening in September 2015 and will offer learning opportunities to 300 14-16 year old and 300 16-19 year old students from Birmingham, the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire. - The College will specialise in Construction and the application of IT in the building industry with a strong emphasis on sustainability and new 'green' technologies. - There will be a focus on modern construction techniques along with an introduction to traditional craft skills. - The Build Environment curriculum will feature environmental technologies with a particular emphasis on energy generation. - The College will produce technically skilled young professionals fully equipped to progress to apprenticeships and construction related Higher Education. - Students will benefit from a clear route into the construction industry. - Employers will benefit from productive and highly-employable new talent.
