Description

This page is West Yorkshire Police's social media engagement with our LGBT (and questioning) community. The aim of the page is primarily to address myths around hate crime reporting - we want you to feel comfortable reporting them all so we know how big the problem is and then we will know how best to deal with them. We will also be raising awareness of areas of our work that have a LGBT angle that people may not be aware of. We will also work with partner groups in the voluntary and community centre, and you may find adverts for other community groups or events around the county. The page is run by LGBT members of staff and police officers. This isn't a crime reporting service, please ring 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non-emergency. General Info

In the Notes section you will find information about what hate crimes are, how to report them, why to report them and what you should expect from the police. We will regularly make Wall Posts which give you brief circumstances of homophobic hate crimes in the West Yorkshire area that get positive outcomes at court. We will also advertise events at which our officers will be attending to support the aims of the Stamping Out Homophobic Occurrences campaign. The more support shown to this page the more we can do to improve reporting rates and positive outcomes of homophobic hate crimes, and hopefully we will then be able to address the issues of prejudice at a much earlier point - with children in schools.
