Ultrasound Scanning Ultrasound is very high frequency sound waves, well above the perception of the human ear so your baby will not be aware of the scan in any way. 3D and 4D ultrasound uses exactly the same technology as hospital 2D ultrasound scanning. 2D ultrasound gives imaging in 2 dimensions and is used in diagnostic examinations. We are privileged to be able to offer you and your family an amazing and realistic first look at your baby with a unique Window to the Womb 3D/4D Ultrasound Baby Scan. Whilst just as safe as the traditional 2D scan that you will have at your hospital, a 3D/4D/HD ultrasound scan can help you get up close and personal with your unborn baby in a way that you never thought possible thanks to the combination of our years of experience, our trained team and our amazing equipment. From a yawn to a stretch, your 2D/3D/4D/HD ultrasound session can give you a realistic first introduction to your baby in their protected world! 3D ultrasound gives images in 3-dimensions, in other words still pictures 4D ultrasound gives imaging in the fourth dimension, giving us real-time movement of your baby in the womb. 4D ULTRASOUND FACT SHEET 4D technology uses sound waves that are out of the range of human hearing so your baby will not be aware of the scan taking place. For good clear imaging we need a pool of amniotic fluid around babies face. To get the very best 4D images it’s important that your baby is in a face upward position However the images of your baby’s face will be affected by anything that blocks or reduces the sound waves or causes a shadow, the umbilical cord, baby’s hands and feet. Babies position also plays a large part in the clarity of the images. If baby is cuddled in to the wall of the womb or placenta your imaging will be hazy. We can try to encourage movement by asking you to roll onto your side, sometimes taking a walk around is also needed. Our policy is to try our best for you on the day, unfortunately this means we may over run on our scan times. Please be patient every client is very important to us. Our clinic offers pregnancy scans at all gestastions from 6 - 40 weeks of pregnancy and all our sonographers are fully trained in clinical & diagnostic ultrasound. All our scans are started with a well-being check of baby and if they feel their could be a problem with baby we will explain as fully as we are able and speak to your midwife with your permission. HD ultrasound – The latest technology available in selected clinics. Our Scanning Machines Our ultrasound scanner is basically a very powerful computer. It’s processor interprets the reflected high frequency sound waves into 3D pictures and adds the fourth-dimension to give us real time moving images. HD is High Definition. Safety We take the safety of you and your baby very seriously and have adopted the A.L.A.R.A (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) protocol when scanning. In simple terms this means that we have our scanners set at the lowest levels that will allow us to get great images for you. We also follow BMUS (British Medical Ultrasound Society) guidelines for non-diagnostic, bonding scans, which means we have lowered the output levels on our machines and do not scan before 16 weeks.
