Description

I accidentally became interested in jump rings a few years ago while searching for a new type of wire for my father to use in his basketry work. I found the wire for my father and, at the same time, discovered an entire world of jewelry made from jump rings. My first attempts at making jewelry were earrings that incorporated jump rings. However, I found it difficult to find jump rings in a large variety of colors and millimeter sizes (most are in inches). So I purchased coiling rods in true millimeter sizes and began coiling and cutting my own jump rings by hand. However, I quickly found that hand cutting each individual ring was very time consuming and gave inconsistent quality, as well as an uneven cut. That led me to trying to find a better way to coil and cut the rings I needed. Today, I use an automatic tool to coil my wire, along with a small table saw to cut the coils into individual rings. Both of these pieces of equipment I designed and built myself. It wasn't long before I got the idea to start making and selling my jump rings to other artists. Etsy seemed like a great place to start. So WireForHire actually began as a shop on Etsy several years ago and it was a great way to make extra money while I was studying Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. I graduated with my degree in May 2013 and have since decided to join forces with my father to create our own website and continue to grow our inventory. We currently carry enameled copper wire in 36 colors, as well as several types of bare wire, such as brass, stainless steel, and copper. Our current product line includes jump rings, ear wires, clasps, charms, and lengths of wire, and we have plans to add more product soon. Our goal continues to be to help you get the product you need as quickly as possible so that your time can be spent creating art and jewelry, rather than searching for the supplies you need.
