The Wisconsin Historical Society has been collecting maps since 1854, and currently holds 25,000 sheet maps and 5,000 atlases. Our maps show locations throughout the United State and Canada, although nearly 50% of the collection is devoted to Wisconsin. The majority predate 1900, with the oldest being made in 1513. Significant holdings include early United States General Land Office survey maps for Wisconsin, plat maps and atlases, Sanborn insurance maps, bird's-eye views, and a range of Wisconsin county and municipality maps. Our growing Digital Map and Atlas Collection features almost 4,000 of these historic maps! Visit us at: http://preview.wisconsinhistory.org/Content.aspx?dsNav=N:1166
