Description

The Women's March on London is a women-led movement that brought together people of all genders, ages, races, cultures, political affiliations and backgrounds on January 21, 2017, to affirm our shared humanity and pronounce our bold message of resistance and self-determination. Now, as we look to the immediate future, we are devising launching new initiatives to further demonstrate our shared commitment to this message. Recognising that women have intersecting identities and are therefore impacted by a multitude of social justice and human rights issues. With great thanks to our friends marching in Washington who have shared their guiding principles with us, we have outlined a representative vision for a UK government that is based on the principles of liberty and justice for all. “We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us” - Jo Cox Our liberation is bound in each other’s. The Women’s March on London includes organisations and communities that have been building the foundation for social progress for generations. We welcome vibrant collaboration and honour the legacy of the movements before us - the suffragists and abolitionists, the trade unionists, the feminist movement, the gay rights movement, anti-poll tax, anti-austerity, anti-war, support for refugees and migrants, environmental rights, anti-racism, anti-Islamophobia and more – by employing a decentralised, leader-full structure and focusing on an ambitious, fundamental and comprehensive agenda. We are empowered by the legions of revolutionary leaders and ancestors who paved the way for us to march, and acknowledge those around the globe who fight for our freedoms. We honor these women and so many more. Over the coming days, we will suggest 10 actions, one by one, that YOU can take in order to continue the amazing momentum and optimism we generated during the march. IT STARTS TODAY! https://www.womensmarchlondon.com/10-actions/ Please read our Guiding Principles on our website: https://www.womensmarchlondon.com/the-wmol-guiding-principles/ http://womensmarchonlondon.com/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/womensmarchlon Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/womensmarchlondon/ Email - womensmarchlondon@gmail.com https://www.gofundme.com/womens-march-on-washingtonlondon… To volunteer and get involved: womensmarchlonvolunteers@gmail.com Women's March on London Saturday January 21 2017: The first day of Donald Trump’s US Presidency as part of a wave of international protest in solidarity with Women’s March on Washington DC. An inclusive march spearheaded by women for everyone in defence of human rights threatened by the inauguration of Donald Trump as POTUS. Mission Statement: On January 21, 2017 we will unite in London in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington DC. We stand together for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families — recognising that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country. This protest is spearheaded by women for all members of our shared communities. We come together in these troubling times, to resist and make our voices heard. The rhetoric of the past US election cycle has insulted and threatened many of us – women, Black, minority, ethnic and refugee groups, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths – particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are globally threatened in our fight against Climate Change when we hear it described as a ‘fiction.’ We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear. In the spirit of democracy and honouring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March is springing up internationally and will send a bold message to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognising that an attack on one group is an attack on us all. We support the movements for change that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march marks our commitment to unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, bringing about change from the grassroots. We will not rest until women have parity and equality at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognising there is no true peace without justice and equality. HEAR OUR VOICE.
