Description

If proof were needed of a pub steeped in history, look no further than The World's End. In the 16th century, Edinburgh was a walled city. The wall came up a neighbouring street and along the end of our building. The gate for entering and exiting the city was attached to the outside of our beautiful pub, and where it once stood can be seen today depicted in the brass cobbles in the street just outside our door. A toll of 40 shillings was in place for anyone passing through the gate, but unfortunately, without trades many locals couldn’t afford to pay and so never left the city. They never knew of a point beyond the wall, we were their worlds end.
