The Y: We're for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Central New Mexico was founded in 19 15 when several prominent businessmen decided there was a need for a gathering place for young men that was not related to saloons or brothels. That was the beginning of the YMCA of Central New Mexico. The first meeting was held at the First Baptist Church in one of their meeting rooms. We have been honored nationally for our diversity in people, cultures and religions. We have the largest Youth Sports Program in the city and use the Y philosophy that every child will play every game. There will not be any benchwarmers in our sports leagues. The Y nationally is the nation’s largest child care provider, locally, the YMCA of Central New Mexico is the state’s largest Child Care provider with over 20 child care, pre-school and afterschool sites.

Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver, positive change. The Y is community centered. For nearly 160 years, we’ve been listening and responding to our communities. The Y brings people together. We connect people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs. The Y nurtures potential. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The Y has local presence and global reach. We mobilize local communities to effect lasting, meaningful change.
