Hi, I am Bistra. My first encounter with yoga was more than 13 years ago when I was a student at Santa Monica College in California. I immediately discovered the calming benefits of the practice for the mind and I also fell in love with the slow and precise movements during Hatha yoga practice and the emphasis on proper alignment. Shortly after I moved to Canada and following the birth of my daughter, I rediscovered yoga. This time, yoga became an even more significant part of my life. For me, it became a way to calm and rejuvenate my mind and provide time to reflect on myself –it gave me some “me” time. Also after the birth of my daughter, I started suffering from serious low back pain. Even though the numerous massage therapy visits gave me temporary relief from the pain, it was not the long-term solution I needed. During regular yoga practice, month after month, the low back pain started to disappear. I also began feeling better not only physically, but emotionally as well. My regular visits to the studio and the numerous workshops I attended at the time opened my curiosity to dive deeper into the ancient teachings of yoga. This is when I decided to pursue my teacher training in yoga. Now I teach yoga because yoga brings happiness and balance to my life and I want to share this with others. In my classes, I encourage my students to be present not only on the mat, but present for every moment of their life journey. I also encourage them to have fun and to find satisfaction and joy in the little things that life offers daily. I believe that we should not miss out on the little things in expectation of something bigger and better or else we miss out on life as a whole.... Namaste, Bistra
