2011, German National Geographic photographer York Hovest made a promise to the Dalai Lama: that he would travel to Tibet, to places perhaps never seen before. 2014, Hovest delivered on his promise. In the northern Indian highlands, in the Tibet exile community of Dharamsala, he handed the Dalai Lama his book of photographs: "100 DAYS IN TIBET" 2015, Hovest continues his passioned work and startet his new project "100 DAYS IN AMAZONIA". Deep down in the jungle, he visited the last indigenous tribes that still live without any contact to our civilized world. 2017, his biggest challenge started. For his new project "100 DAYS OF OCEANS" York will spend 100 days on the world´s oceans to create a unique portrait of the element that is so fascinating to us and the source of all life on earth. The sea, with its thousand faces, has always aroused the most different emotions in us: longing, daring, adventure, but also anxiety and fear. But who are we for the sea? York would like to find answers to this questions. How do we influence the oceans of our world? Climate change and global warning are two of the most important factors that have a serious impact on all life in the water. His journey will take him to places, where the footprint of our modern civilization cannot be ignored anymore.
