Happy International Day of the Midwife! Every day feels like day of the midwife to me! Midwives are invaluable to me both personally and professionally. It's inspiring to contemplate the role that midwives have played in our cultural history and humbling to consider the stigmas they have faced globally over time in order to continue to serve families. In their dedication to those they care for, they forgo sleep and time away from their own family and friends. Midwives offer a model of care that focuses not only on the physical but also the emotional and spiritual health of mom, baby and family. Today and every day, let's celebrate these amazing women!

Breastfeeding is a family affair! This guy gets it! Difficult and nearly impossible for a partnered mother to contentedly nurse her child without partner and peer support! Partners your involvement matters :)

BIZARRE BIRTH TRIVIA: Ancient Greek physician Soranus wrote the ultimate birth how-to book of his time. He believed that what we think during love making effects our children. So, he wrote that a woman who had thought of monkeys during sex gave birth to hairy children, whereas another woman's husband made sure she gazed at a beautiful statue during sexy-time and they ended up with gorgeous (and not hairy) offspring!

Childbirth Preparation!!! If you or someone you know is seeking a childbirth education class that supports an authentic and individualized preparation process, the next Journey Childbirth Education Series will be held on Sundays November 2nd, 9th, 16th from 12-3pm (last series for 2014!). For more information or to register, please visit!childbirth-education/cywq. Please always feel free to contact me directly with questions as well! Prepare to walk the path! The Journey is a three class childbirth education series that explores childbirth as a normal, natural event while supporting parents to make informed choices and take responsibility for their birth experiences, whether they choose to give birth at home, hospital, natural or medicated. Though intellectual and practical topics are covered, the emphasis of this class is on internal process and preparation, practicing breath work and focusing on thought awareness to strengthen the ability to give birth positively in a variety of ways. Through dynamic activities, discussions and practice, The Journey Class reinforces and enhances parents’ trust in their own abilities to prepare, give birth, and parent. During our three weeks together, we explore a range of topics, including breathing, movement, comfort measures, partner support, stages of labor, effective communication with caregivers, birth plans and more! Topics and activities are approached from a refreshing perspective, drawing from a blend of resources to help participants prepare to welcome their babies with authenticity, true to themselves and their own individual processes. The Journey is an approach to childbirth education that encourages birthing with open hearts and spirits as parents empower and ready themselves for their journeys. It is by trusting our intuitive knowing that we prepare to walk the path to parenthood! Join us!
