There are many benefits to having full screens and there are many benefits to having half screens in your replacement windows.
It’s worth taking a moment here to discuss the pros and cons of each.
Even with Nashville’s humid subtropical climate , you may still find opportunities during the year for leaving your windows open and both of these window screen size options will work great for allowing natural airflow in your home while keeping the bugs out and any curious cats inside.
With screens that are full length of the window there is no portion of the window that is only glass window looking out the window.
If you choose a half screen one half of the window will be glass only, with a wholly unobscured view.
If you enjoy taking photos of birds at your feeder you might prefer a half screen which would allow you to auto focus more easily with your camera from inside your home.
A full screen will not allow you to have an area where there is glass only.
Since most double hung windows have the safety lock on both the top and the bottom this allows homeowners to choose whether they want to open the window for airflow at the bottom (up to a certain point where the safety locks catch the window) or open the window at the top (also up to a certain point as well).
If you hope to retain the option of doing either the top or the bottom then you would also still want to get a full screen.
Most homeowners have double hung windows here in the Nashville area so any exterior cleaning is not typical since the double hung windows are easily cleaned with the ’wash’ setting that allows them to be easily tilted into your home for cleaning.
If you watch our video you can see this in action.
It is very convenient to have full screens if you do not want bugs to come in when you are cleaning your windows.
(This may of course be more especially true if you’re a night owl and you are cleaning your windows in the evening hours when bugs may be more drawn to the light in your home.)
