Description

The Blue Ball Foundation was started by Mike Elliott and Jamie Morgan, both survivors of Testicular Cancer. Mike and Jamie met each other during a comedy night Jamie was performing at and was telling him about the signs and surgery he went through. Mike went and had a checkup a couple of weeks later and found out he was diagnosed as well. Mike jokingly credits Jamie for saving his life. Instead of sitting on their hands, they decided to do something about it and started The BlueBall Foundation. Testicular Cancer is the most common cancer in men aged between 15 and 35, but there is a 95% cure rate if detected early. We believe that there is a ‘culture of embarrassment’, that discourages men from discussing and resolving problems related to man issues. It doesn't just affect one person, but families, parents, kids as well. We use live comedy, inspirational talks in schools and workplaces, YouTube videos, big events and social media to build a culture where embarrassment does not prevent men from checking 'their boys'. We are not government funded. We rely purely on supporters generosity. OUR OBJECTIVES: • To raise awareness of Testicular Cancer. Mike Elliott and Jamie Morgan are both survivors of Testicular Cancer. Around 700 Australian men are diagnosed a year. There is a 95% survival rate if treated early. It is the most popular men aged 20-39. • The advancement of men’s health. • Offer support to men going through their Testicular Cancer battle. • To raise awareness of health related issues in men such as depression hense the 'Blue' part in our name. • To build a culture where embarrassment does not prevent men from checking ‘their boys’ by using comedy, education, and awareness programs. • Use all forms of social media including Twitter and Facebook, public talks in schools, workplaces and community groups to encourage guys to think about their wellbeing. • Raise awareness and funds via events for cancer related and men’s health projects.
