The Aurora Arts Theatre is a non-profit community theatre in Corpus Christi, TX.
The Aurora Arts Theatre (AAT) opened its doors in January of 2010. It was established by Edward and Mary Chapa and was truly a labor of love. Edward, along with family and friends, began the laborious work of bringing this quaint and intimate theatre to the south side of Corpus Christi. Nunsense, a musical comedy, was the inaugural play and it marked the beginning of a very successful first year. Sadly, founder Edward Chapa would only enjoy one year of his newly realized dream as he died suddenly in 2011. Friends and family rallied around the theatre during this time of grief, and continue to do so to perpetuate Ed’s legacy. The tragedy has fueled the endeavors of friends and family to keep the theatre lights shining and actors acting. Seven years and 36 plays later, the theatre has established a strong following and continues to offer actors, directors, musicians, and the community a place to hone their craft or simply share an enjoyable evening amidst friends all while bringing wonderful theatre to our community. The Aurora Arts Theatre is a 501(c)(3) and actively seeks and explores various avenues by which we can bring more revenue to the Aurora. Additional revenue received through grants and donations would not only assure the continued success of the theatre, but would also afford us the opportunity to build a stronger theatre program and potentially reach more of our South Texas community.
