We specialize in quality used Speculative/Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror books and new and used Punk, Indie Rock, and Metal vinyl at low prices. We also have our famed Awesome section which includes Literary Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Popular Science, and Biography. Along with our hand-curated books and records, we also host events, author readings, and in-store musical performances. Founded in 1961 by 17 book lovers who invested $10 each, this member-owned bookstore has an extensive list of titles in a wide range of disciplines. The flagship store on Woodlawn Avenue is widely regarded as one of the best academic bookstores in the world. Our mission, unchanged from our founding, is to serve the diverse reading needs of the University and Hyde Park communities. We believe that our passionately local focus in this unique community of readers has made our vision of bookstores appealing to readers throughout the world. The Woodlawn Avenue store employs 12 full-time and 6 part-time booksellers, with a collective total of more than 225 years in the book business. One of Chicago's oldest and largest used bookstores, Myopic Books has three floors full of books, an amount totaling over 80,000 editions. We carry sections such as fiction, art, architecture, music, film, philosophy, science, religion, pyschology, literary criticism, mythology, children's, cooking, sci-fi, biography and local history/interest... and many more. Have a question?  Located in the heart of Wicker Park. We are conveniently open until 11pm every day of the week. We buy books on Fridays from 6pm to 10pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. For small amounts (a single box or bag) we may be able to accommodate you anytime if you call us first.
