Great Article about Eleni Spirakis and her Saratoga High School Team! Great Job Eleni! Print Email Saratoga: Spirakis gets win, save, six hits to lead Falcons to softball wins By Dick Sparrer Posted: 04/02/2014 06:04:41 PM PDT0 Comments Rain brought an early end to Saratoga's softball game with Silver Creek on March 29 in the Charlie Miguel Tournament, and as it turns out it seems that only Mother Nature could stop Saratoga sophomore sensation Eleni Spirakis. Before the showers and Saratoga finished off the Raiders 7-2 in four innings, Spirakis had already posted some impressive numbers in the Falcons' three-game week. As a pitcher, she posted a win and a save in the circle, and she was also solid at the plate with a 6 for 10 week. That was enough to lead the Falcons to two Miguel tourney wins--the 7-2 decision over Creek and a tight 4-3 nod over Sobrato--but not enough to keep the Falcons from falling 7-1 to Wilcox in league play. It was the first loss in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League this spring for the Falcons, who had opened by beating Los Altos 9-8 and Los Gatos 5-2. But they pushed their season record to 7-4 with the two tournament wins on Saturday. Saratoga got out of the gates quickly with four runs in the first against Sobrato. Tivoli Sisco drove in one run and scored another in the rally. Ellen Lee and Analisa Ruff also knocked in runs in the first and Hera Tang, Stephanie Hayes and Amanda Lee each scored. Tang was cruising along with a shutout through five innings before running into a jam in the seventh. The Bulldogs scored three times to pull within a run, but Spirakis came, and despite giving up a couple of hits, retired the side for the save. Tang was the winning pitcher, pushing her record to 4-2. She gave up just three hits and a walk and struck out six. A. Lee singled and doubled and Spirakis, Ruff and Sisco also had two hits each in the win. Savannah Green, E. Lee and Hayes also singled for the Falcons. Later in the day, the Falcons broke open a close game with a six-run rally in the third to beat Silver Creek. Spirakis gave up just five hits and struck out seven to get the win in the game that ended after four because of rain. Spirakis is now 3-2 in the circle this season. Spirakis also led the offense with a single and a double, scoring two runs and driving one home. Tang and Hayes each had two hits with an RBI apiece, and A. Lee and E. Lee each singled and knocked in runs. Ruff and Danielle Bruno added hits and scored runs in the win, and Sisco, Lois Om and A. Lee also scored. Tang swiped two bases for the Falcons. Spirakis had two hits and scored a run, but otherwise there wasn't much joy in Falconville on March 28 when Saratoga lost 7-1 to Wilcox in league play. Sisco, Tang and Hayes added the only other hits on the day for the Falcons. The Falcons were to return to league action earlier this week against Homestead and Monta Vista, then will be off until April 15 when they host Milpitas.

I know that many of you know of the passing of AVGSL softball coach, Chris Luescher. A few weeks ago he was killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light. This has been just devastating for all who knew Chris and his family. Chris was a strong and quiet type of guy. He caught at CES for both his daughters Lauryn and Emily pitching lessons each week for the past three and half years. Kari and the girls, asked in lieu of flowers, that people send a donation to CES to create scholarships for our summer softball camp. CES will work with local leagues for players to attend in the honor of his name. So if you would like to donate: Chris Luescher CES Summer Camp Fund: 1844 Stone Ave, San Jose, Ca 95125. Make the check out to Cutting Edge Softball. Please include your name and contact information for the family. If you are a softball person and want to share this with other softball families please do so. If you have any questions you can contact me at:
