Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society (GEARS) is a non-profit organization. (822791430RR0001) Our purpose is to: 1. Identify and take into immediate foster care, animals that are: a. Stray, abandoned, or homeless b. May face homelessness due to owner death or placement in a higher level of care c. Owned by someone leaving an abusive situation 2. Train and rehabilitate rescued animals, bringing out their full potential. All animals will receive vet care as required, and will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. 3. Find suitable approved foster and adoptive homes for rescued animals based on animal characteristics and an in-depth screening of potential homes. 4. Provide education and assistance to adoptive homes, ensuring the permanent welfare of the adopted animal. 5. Educate the public on GEARS mission, vision, and goals, as well as responsible pet ownership, animal interaction, and animal welfare. 6. Support and collaborate with local organizations and businesses with the goal of improving the lives of animals in Alberta. Through education and responsible rehoming practices, the Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society will become a driving force in the region as an animal rescue and advocate for the welfare of companion animals. By working together like gears in a chain, we will set in motion a positive momentum in making the Edmonton Area a greater place for people and pets.

The Edmonton Humane Society (formerly Edmonton SPCA) was first organized in 1907 by its founder, (Rosetta Graydon) - Edmonton’s first humane educator. The EHS was then incorporated as a non-profit animal welfare society in 1910, and issued its Charter in 1912. During about a hundred years of operation, the non-profit organization has dedicated efforts to sheltering and speaking for homeless and abused companion animals. The Edmonton Humane Society is not affiliated with any other Humane Society or SPCA. Any donations to other organizations are not passed on to the EHS through any other organization.
