German Shepherd Rescue Indy's mission is to save adoptable shepherds in kill shelters in the tri-state area. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana Hours of Operation: Tuesday through Saturday Noon-5pm. CLOSED SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
After volunteering at a local kill shelter for over 6 years, I saw a tremendous need to save the German Shepherds. They are intelligent and loyal although they do not fare well in a shelter setting. Continuous barking, dominant posture, and displays of cage protection equate to low live release rates. I rescue shepherds with good temperaments or those who have the ability to become great family pets with reasonable training. All dogs are evaluated and this information is provided to the potential adopter. Please research this breed before considering applying. Shepherds are known for their protective nature and need for exercise and socialization. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm test, deworm, rabies, microchip and up-to-date on vaccinations. Reduced fees for dogs 7+ years of age. Any health issues or needed behavior modification is noted with each dog's description. Adoption to Indiana residents with fully fenced yards is highly preferred.
