Horton's Book Store

at 410 Adamson Square, Carrollton

Founded in 1892 by N.A. Horton, Horton's has been a part of the Carrollton Georgia community for 119 years. Originally begun as a source for school textbooks, the store expanded to include furniture, sewing machines, china, caskets and coffins. This was not unusual at the time as N. A. Horton was an undertaker in addition to being a bookseller. Operated by his son Hap after 1917, Horton's continued to grow along with the town. After locating in various buildings around the downtown square, Horton's returned to its original location in 1955. Antique cases from a pharmacy provide unique bookshelves as well as an ambiance found nowhere else. The original heart pine floors reflect shelves filled with a wide selection of new books, and gifts for all occasions. The NewsStand next door offers a variety of coffees and teas along with magazines and daily newspapers. Poe, Mayah and Miss Miniver, the store felines, are always available to help in a customer's selection.
