Dealing with parents, teachers, peers, siblings and the culture. Connecting to your inner compass and expressing your Whole Self authentically. * Rites of Passage for boys, girls, men and women. Especially Coming of Age for girls. * Gender issues. LBQT+++. Gender stereotyping. Gender equality in relationships. Transgender and cisgender in feminism. Gender continuum. * Wholesome education about sexuality at a time when words like "cyber-sexuality" and "rape culture" describe a challenging and changing social mileux. * Cultural issues - what messages we receive and how to overturn the crappy ones * Cosmic education: considering the overall well-being of each person, not just intellectual development. * What matters to you * * * * * * * * * Journey of Young Women is a circle of experienced, skilled and intentional teachers, led by Holistic Educator Katharine Krueger, who are passionate about empowering girls, women and parents.. We believe that every girl, on her journey through adolesence toward womanhood, can learn to take responsibility for her physical, social, emotional, spiritual and sexual well-being. We believe that every human being deserves a Rite of Passage, when family, community and trusted mentors and teachers: + support a young person in learning essential life skills, + bear witness as s/he takes responsibility for his/her own life and their relationship with others and the world + recognize and celebrate that young person for what they have learned and achieved. We believe that every parent deserves community, mentorship and education in order to support their children on the journey through childhood and adolescence. Our guiding principles are compassion, awareness and reverence for the interdependent web of life. We uphold universal values - such as awareness, integrity, respect, and freedom - that are gifts from cross-cultural wisdom and religious traditions including Buddhism, Christianity, earth-honoring spirituality and shamanism. We also draw from modern sources such as Linda Knodle's "Coming of Age" curriculum, Tamara Slayton's "I Find My Star" curriculum, Marshall Rosenberg's "Non-Violent Communication", and Rudolph Steiner's and Maria Montessori's views on child development and education. Katharine Krueger guides Journey of Young Women, in collaboration with teachers, advisors, parents and (yes!) the girls. Here, and formerly as Director of Children’s and Youth Practice at Clouds in Water Zen Center, Katharine has helped children, youth, parents and teachers learn essential life skills and cultivate well-being, compassion, awareness, emotional intelligence, intentionality, groundedness and wholesomeness for over 14 years. She is also a mechanical engineer, a qualified facilitator, a teacher at Planet Homeschool, and the parent of two children aged 15 and 17. * * * * * * * * * * * * * IMPORTANT: I, Katharine Krueger, have no formal training in parent education or the like. When I express my opinion, it is based on independent study, my own life experience, and my experience working with children, youth and parents. ****** A few guidelines ******* We welcome differing views here when offered with respect. This is not a place to debate our core values, though! On this page, comments are for comments pertaining to the post, not so much for mentioning one's own page or advertising a product, event or service. Please use the wall for that. But of course, highly pertinent, simpatico art, events or blogposts are welcome as a comment. We want to be networking, but we don't want to be spammy. Just use your common sense, please, or message me if you are uncertain. GUIDELINES FOR POSTING TO OUR WALL: REQUEST: Please do not message the page asking us to share your event or blogpost. Simply post it to the wall. That's why we keep the wall open, so your voice can be heard. When you post to the wall, it's best to simply post to the wall without asking us to post to the main page. We share some posts and not others according to what we sense our followers will enjoy that day. Active members are welcome to post simpatico "outreach" type messages on the wall 4 to 6 times per year. New members or inactive members may post once a year. This is not a free advertising space, it is a community. However, if you are organizing a Red Tent event, or doing Divinely Feminine art, or have written an awesome blogpost, please do share - and regularly. Just use your common sense as to whether it's spam or networking :) ************************** Please note: Journey of Young Women and page participants make no claim to the rights of artwork, text or other page content unless explictly stated. When available, the original author/artist will be credited and the source cited. If we have posted your work, and would like it identified or removed from the page, let us know and we will comply. As a not for profit educational site, we operate under the Fair Use rule of the US Copyright Law. The primary mission of Journey of Young Women is to help girls navigate the path from childhood to adulthood with intentionality, mentorship and joy. Toward this mission, we: Offer Coming of Age and life skills education for girls. Educate and create community for parents to help them raise children who are physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and sexually healthy. Offer Circles and Retreats for women and girls: a time for replenishment, ease, sharing, laughter and learning - and, often, to create something beautiful, useful and meaningful. Explore and uphold the Divine Feminine and the Awakened Masculine. Facilitate the birth and development of sister groups with a similar mission. * * * * * * * * * Journey of Young Women is a circle of experienced, skilled and intentional teachers, led by Holistic Educator Katharine Krueger, who are passionate about empowering girls, women and parents..
