Description

Kingston Community School is a new state-funded Primary school offering a first class education individually tailored to each child. What is a Chapel St School? Chapel St schools are learning communities where every child is known, valued and developed. Our schools each have their own local character, that reflects their history and priorities. What unites our schools is a shared vision to see each and every child in our care flourish. That's why all of our schools emphasise: A community of learning, built on relationships Founded on positive relationships, Chapel St schools produce self-confident students who have permission to dream and who have the necessary skills and knowledge they need to succeed. By providing excellent teaching along with a coach to work with every child and family we inspire and enable every child for academic achievement, personal development and community service. Personalising learning to the needs of every pupil: A child-centred approach to learning We are committed to the personal development and academic success of each of our students. We want them to be the best they can be, and so provide each student with a personal pathway that is tailored to their skills and abilities, challenges and opportunities. In addition we provide a coach to help and guide each student along the way. This adult will support the student throughout their school career, working alongside them to help them realise their potential. Engaging parents and carers: A family-focused approach to learning We believe that parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s learning and development. We engage families from the start so that pupils learn faster and school plays a positive role in family life. Our staff work with parents and carers, equipping them to support and encourage them in their studies and inviting family members to become more involved in school life. This might include parents mentoring students on running their own business or providing coaching support for primary school students. Involving the community in the life of the school: A community-minded approach to learning We believe that it takes a community to raise a child. We encourage local residents and community groups to play an active role in the life of our schools. By encouraging people to support and engage we ensure that their local school has the community at its heart and soon becomes the heart of the community. What’s different about our educational approach? Chapel St schools are committed to the academic success of our students. One of the most compelling ways to achieve this is through Project Based Learning. This approach gives students a tangible reason to learn, by combining different subjects into practical, real-life projects, which enable children to go deeper and explore different dimensions of learning. Through Project Based Learning our students access the curriculum in engaging and exciting ways that accelerate their learning and development. They integrate schemes and gain a range of vital skills, such as teamwork, problem solving, entrepreneurial thinking and presentation skills. Project Based Learning helps our children not only learn the content and information they need for the exams that they will need to take but also to understand how they learn and to take charge of their own learning. Every project is carefully planned to ensure it is curriculum compliant and to ensure students master both the required content and develop the key skills. These projects run over many weeks and culminate in presentations, performances and exhibitions, giving pupils an opportunity to showcase their work and their learning. Early results from Atherton Community School demonstrate this approach is delivering academic success.
