Description

The problem with community gardens is that they often leave "community" out of gardening. Since most tend their gardens at different times, some gardeners rarely see each other. We invite anyone interested in gardening or sustainable living, either urban or rural, to post here and join a social conversation. An important part of creating change in the world is reconnecting as neighbors. I call what I do, "Social Agriculture. Anybody out there having any social gathering we could partner with? I garden at First Grace Community Garden where we use organic methods, but we believe that any responsible gardening close to home is superior in quality and more beneficial to the environment than food produced by methods that require heavy use of fossil fuel to produce, process, package, and transport. We are also deeply committed to continually rebuilding the soil through composting. Please post and discuss. All of us benefit from knowing what others are doing in the community and sharing information and upcoming events. Pictures are welcome, and feel free to send out notices if you are looking for or need something, or if you have something to share or a service to render others. Naturally, we welcome sponsors or donors too, but most of all, we want to build a thriving and interdependent community of gardeners, especially in the New Orleans area. We hope that eventually the whole City will have access to wholesome, locally grown foods and will welcome the transition to environmentally sustainable farming. We sometimes partner with NolaTimeBank; A Growing Playce for Collaborative Community: Friends of First Grace Community Garden and the Latino American Association of Growers.
