I’m Mike Lalonde and I am running to be your federal Conservative candidate in Ottawa West--Nepean.

Description

I’m Mike Lalonde and I am running to be the next federal Conservative candidate for Ottawa West--Nepean. I am running because I believe in making a difference, finding real solutions to problems and putting people first. As a former Captain in the Canadian Armed Forces, financial planner, and Ottawa native, I believe I am the right choice to represent you. Who I am: Son of Paul (a career police officer) and Linda Lalonde, and brother to Danny, I was born in Montreal, Quebec and I grew up in Ottawa. My family has always been a huge inspiration to me. They have taught me values of dedication, hard work and perseverance through hard times, but most importantly, my parents have taught me the value of serving others. When I was 17, I joined the army and over the past 23 years I had the honour of serving my country in the Canadian Armed Forces, first as a Reservist and then in the Regular Force, as a military Captain. I joined the military to fight for people who couldn’t fight for themselves. I wanted to dedicate my life to something greater. I believe that you should always be learning so I have focused on my education throughout my career. I have a BA and Masters in History from the University of Waterloo and I am currently completing a political science degree at Carleton University. I also worked as a financial planner at both the Royal Bank Canada (RBC) and TD Waterhouse. I know a thing or two about dollars and cents, and I have several common sense ideas to better serve the people of Ottawa West--Nepean. What I want to do: Ottawa West--Nepean should have a representative that respects small businesses and encourages entrepreneurship within the riding. I want to scrap the Small Business Tax Hike and help mom and pop businesses thrive in Ottawa West--Nepean. Second, our riding needs to have someone who puts its people first. This includes helping our seniors regain their rights by promoting their voice in the riding. Third, this riding needs safer communities for families and seniors. The recent rise in crime in Ottawa is of great concern to us all. We need to address key issues causing crime in our community, and tackle issues like the Opioid Crisis head on. I want to hear from you. After I left the army, I got involved in politics to continue my service to Canada through other means, primarily by serving others.
