MUN Sailing exists to assist in the growth of a strong community of sailors who can build the sport of sailing within Memorial University and the province.
MUN Sailing was founded in the Fall of 2012; since then, MUN Sailing has striven to provide affordable and exciting sailing opportunities to the students of Memorial University and all satellite campuses. Following our mission statement, we formed an executive committee consisting of eight dedicated individuals and over the past two years we have worked tirelessly to grow our membership and community outreach. The past year has proven to be especially productive for MUN Sailing. In October of 2013 MUN Sailing held its first-ever regatta which involved a total of 13 sailors over the two-day regatta. In February we formed our official race-team. MUN Sailing has also taken a number of initiatives to fundraise for boats and other necessary equipment. We held two student mixers and organized an event at the local MUN Breezeway, both of these events were effective in both building membership and in collecting funds. MUN Sailing is continuing to organize such fundraisers and we are in the process of seeking out corporate sponsors. In the near future MUN Sailing hopes to continue sending students to collegiate-based national and international regattas. Currently our race-team is training to compete in Kingston, ON for the 2014 Canadian Collegiate Championships. It is without doubt that our organization has, and will continue to make significant progress over the next few years.
