Natalie's Sisters creates life changing opportunities for women in the sex industry by extending hope, support, and God's unconditional love. Sixteen years ago, who could have predicted the impact home-cooked meals and conversation would have on a group of at-risk women? Home-cooked food opened the doors of local strip clubs to Bruised Reed team members, allowing us to reach hurting, abused and exploited women who might never come to church. Relationships quickly developed with dozens of women and men. Consistency and unconditional love are the key to reaching people for Christ through this unusual ministry. Three years ago one of the ladies we ministered to in the clubs (who moved to escort services and prostitution) was killed. Her name was Natalie and the news of her death inspired our team to expand its outreach to include women involved in prostitution. Realizing Natalie epitomized the scope of women we serve, we adopted the name Natalie’s Sisters. Since then we’ve ministered to over 135 women engaged in prostitution through our street ministry, jail visits, mentoring, community resource referrals, hospital visitation, and small gatherings. We also continue to minister to dozens of women weekly as we visit the clubs. Through this ministry, many women (and men!) have made life-changing decisions to get out of the industry and start new lives. As the ministry grew, we realized the necessity to expand Natalie’s Sisters to stand on its own as a community-based ministry. We will continue to work with Southland as a Strategic Partner, as well as numerous other churches and community agencies and organizations -- and are so excited to see where God leads us. Even though we’ve moving outside of Southland’s walls, the ministry of Bruised Reed—now Natalie’s Sisters—continues. And it’s only through the faithfulness of hundreds of volunteers that we’re able to reach so many people!
