No paper can survive without advertisement revenue. Advertisement revenue can come only from business and in India all business, both high and small, is attached to the congress and will not favour any Non-Congress organisation. The staff of Associated Press in India, is entirely drawn from the Madras Brahmin - indeed the whole of the Press in India is in their hands - and they, for well known reasons, are entirely pro-congress and will not allow any news hostile to the congress to get publicity. These are reasons beyond the control of the untouchables". - Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (1945) आज भी मुख्यधारा के भारतीय मीडिया का एक बड़ा हिस्सा केवल विशेष व समृद्ध वर्ग के लोगों की चिंताओं और आकांक्षाओं का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहा है। इस संविदा में हाशिए पर खड़े समाज जिसमें देश के अनुसूचित जाति, अनुसूचित जनजाति, महिलाएं, अल्पसंख्यक, किसान, मजदूर शामिल हैं, उनके हितों एवं संघर्षों को आसानी से नजरअंदाज कर दिया जाता है। हाशिए पर खड़े समाज की आवाज बनने का नेशनल दस्तक एक प्रयास है। नेशनल दस्तक सामाजिक सरोकार से जुड़े लोगों की सामूहिक पहल है जिसके परामर्शदाता मंडल में गणमान्य सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता, वरिष्ठ पत्रकार, पूर्व प्रशासनिक अधिकारी, ग्रामीण व शहरी उद्यमी युवा, इंवेस्टिगेटर्स, डॉक्टर, इंजीनियर, स्ट्रिंगर्स आदि शामिल हैं। नेशनल दस्तक की कोशिश रहती है कि जो अन्य मीडिया घरानों के 'रूचि' का विषय नहीं है उसकी जानकारी आप तक पहुंचाई जाए। सामाजिक तानेबाने की आड़ में सदियों से चली आ रही शोषण की बारीकियों से अवगत कराना भी नेशनल दस्तक का उद्देश्य है। इसके साथ साथ हमारा यह भी प्रयास है कि हम देश के कोने कोने से 5 लाख वालंटियर को जोड सके ताकि समाज के उस हिस्सो के मुद्दों को उठा सके जिसकी कोई आवाज़ नहीं बनना चाहता। ....इस प्रयास में अब तक देश भर से 11539 वालंटियर जुड़ चुके है।
