Bling It On stopped the clock at 3.06.8 in winning the Newcastle Derby on Saturday night with a mile rate of 1.57.9 which was only 3/10ths of a second outside the track record held jointly by Excel Stride and Suave Stuey Lombo. His time was the fastest mile rate on the night which was a top effort as the Derby was over 2550 metres, and there was a very strong head wind in the home straight all night.

The Tamworth and Newcastle clubs have worked together to add an incentive to the winners of the North West Derby and Oaks which were run at Tamworth on the 24th April. The winners of each gained an invitation to the Newcastle Derby and Oaks. Newcastle CEO Ross Gigg said “The Tamworth club approached us with the idea of re-establishing the North West Derby and Oaks which haven’t been run for many years. They wanted to add an incentive to give the races a boost. That incentive was a place in the Newcastle Derby and Oaks. Newcastle were only too happy to support the promotion as many of our trainer’s race at Tamworth and many Tamworth trainer’s race here. The cooperation between the two clubs is good and we look forward to hosting the Tamworth executive and their partners as our guests for Oaks night on the 9th May. ” Haka Shannon for trainer, driver Peter Bullock won the North West Derby and will take his place in the Newcastle Derby this Saturday night. The three year old Bettors Delight gelding has won two of his past four starts but he has drawn awkwardly in barrier nine but will move in one barrier should the emergency Ultimate Ace not gain a start. The first race will go at 5.12 this Saturday night.

Both the NSWHRC and Newcastle HRC would like to thank the race naming sponsors who have jumped on board to support the fund raising efforts for 10 year old Luke Blazejko at the transferred NSWHRC meeting at Newcastle this Friday afternoon. Newcastle CEO Ross Gigg decided at the last moment to sell off the race names on Friday and all races were sold within 24 hours. The money raised going to Luke. The race naming sponsors are the Bathurst, Penrith and Wagga Harness racing clubs, Harness Racing NSW, the Caduceus Club of Newcastle the UHRA and Global Bloodstock. Luke who has autism has now been diagnosed with ewing sarcoma cancer. While its free entry on Friday both clubs are asking for a gold coin donation at the gate which will be donated to Luke, the NSWHRC have donated $1,000 towards the gold coin donation on the day as well as donating five dinner for two packages in the Miracle mile restaurant for the Len Smith mile meeting. Newcastle has donated a dinner package for 4 people in Pacers restaurant which will be used by the family at a fund raising day they have planned at Glendale on the 6th April. We hope plenty of people can head to the track this Friday afternoon to see some of the top trainers, drivers and horses in NSW race for metropolitan prize money. The first race will jump at 2.39 on Friday afternoon

Well done to Maddie Bond on a win at her first trial drive last night and a big welcome back to Tess Wilks {nee Gleeson} who had the two drives at the trials which are the first of her 10 drives needed to get her licence back.

who screwed up at the TAB yesterday and declared race 3 at Newcastle trots as abandoned? the race was pushed back 1 race, all runners checked some scratched but 6 went around. No betting no sky cover on the re run race WTF!
