Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) is a rapidly growing field encompassing multiple disciplines, such as medical doctors and surgeons, physical therapists, nutritionists and strength and conditioning coaches. There are often limited opportunities for undergraduates and it is with this in mind that NSEMS hopes to: • Host regular lectures from a variety of SEM professionals. • Provide a range of relevant workshops in the near future. • Enable individuals to network and contact professionals, perhaps to organise an SSC or placement. Past events include: • Having an interest in SEM with Sunderland AFC Academy Doctor, Dr. Daniel Ross. May 30th 2013. • Half Marathon Medicine by Dr Chris Vallis (Medical Director of the Great North Run) 16th October 2013. • Caring for the Elite Athlete by Dr Graham Wilkes (former Newcastle Falcons Doctor and Doctor to the Men's GB Olympic Hockey Team) 20th January 2014. • Musculoskeletal Masterclass (Practical session) with NUFC doctor, Dr. Paul Catterson, SAFC Physios, Gateshead Thunder doctor, Dr. Ian Blain and athlete cardiologist, Dr. Kenny. Weds 12th March 2014 We are currently looking forward to our upcoming Northern Undergraduate Sports and Exercise Medicine Conference in October.
