Did you know or are you aware that all states have requirements that must be met for the import and export of horses? Please be aware when having a hauler transport your horse for you that they ask for this from you and that you provide this to them in order to legally transport your horse. Being DOT compliant and also have a MC number allowing the hauler to be legal for hire is not the only requirements needed to ensure your horse is being transported legally across the state lines, below is a link of all of the state requirements, ALL States require a health certificate issued within 30 days of transport, some states indicate that the coggins is good for 6 months of date of issue, others are 12 months, permits are required for some states also. Should your hauler get pulled over or are checked at the weigh station and not in compliance with ALL required paperwork necessary to transport they can and will ask them to offload the horses on the spot and stop transport until all requirements for legal transport are met. This means your horse may have to be transported to a local farm where the transporter has been pulled over at and a Vet inspection and proper paperwork done before your horse can continue it's travels to you.
